Semyon Motolyanets works mainly in the genre of performance, installation and object, although his work also includes graphic, painting, video and even literary works. Semyon was born and began his artistic education in Belarus, and then in St. Petersburg he graduated from the department of monumental and decorative painting at the Stieglitz Academy of Art and Industry. He graduated from the Stieglitz Art and Industry Academy (MUCA) and the Contemporary Art Program of the PRO ARTE Foundation in St. Petersburg. Thus having united the academic guidelines of the classical post-soviet painting education with the newest formation of the modern art education. Semyon Motolyants's work is well known to the St. Petersburg public. Actively involved in group exhibition projects since 2006, he is also a member of the group «PARZIT» and is one of the founders of the group «Soap», winner of the prize «Innovation 2009» in the category «New Generation». "The work presented in Motolyants' new project is a conflict. A conflict between the artist's reflexes and his or her ratios. The painter, who has a traditional art education behind him, unable to cope with himself, experiences the first impulse to create a work and does not intentionally write as he was taught. The next moment is the involuntary reaction to what came out: «God, what a vulgar sunset!» The texts are the voice of the artist's mind, burdened by postmodern consciousness. The beautiful according to Kant has become trivial. Writing in the traditional manner is not comical. The irony of the generally accepted and already established rules of the game in the capitalized art world - «Big picture solves big questions» - looks like a way of protection and self-identification and, to some extent, even a confrontation with evil.
